Description:
The Director, Home Living, is a leadership role in the Continuing Care portfolio in the Edmonton Zone. The Director works as part of a dyad relationship with the Physician Lead for Home Living and reports directly to the Executive Director, Continuing Care, Edmonton Zone. The Director, Home Living, leads a talented team of more than 1300 staff who join in the mission of AHS to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans. In addition to providing direct leadership to the Home Care program, the Director is an integral team member within the Continuing Care portfolio who interfaces regularly with external home care agencies and acute care stakeholders. The Director is accountable for ensuring home care capacity is being optimized to support clients to remain in the community for as long as possible and ensure service delivery is occurring in a safe and efficient manner. The Director also works in close affiliation with Provincial Seniors Health and the other zone Home Living Leaders to ensure that strategic goals and deliverables as per AHS’ strategic direction and business plans are met.

Required Qualifications:
Masters Degree in a Health related discipline. Relevant experience and education may be considered as equivalent. Current membership in good standing with an accredited professional association. A minimum of eight years of progressive leadership/management experience in an organization of significant size and complexity within community and/or continuing care. A working knowledge and demonstrated understanding of Home Care and its inter-connectedness to the health system.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Practical experience in strategy, policy development, leadership. Conceptual and analytical skills to critically assess information and to synthesize large volumes of information to draw meaningful and relevant conclusion. Knowledge and demonstrated application of business planning and modeling concepts. Knowledge and demonstrated application of change, project and program management theories, principles and practices. Uses strategic thinking, taking into account long-term goals and innovative improvements. Excellence in interpersonal skills, written and oral communication. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues Understanding of and a demonstrated commitment to community partnerships and teamwork. Knowledge of human resource management and interpreting/application of collective agreement articles to program operations. Knowledge of budget/financial systems. Working knowledge of standards in the Seniors Health program streams. Knowledge of quality improvement principles. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Internet and E-mail. Further education related to management and program planning is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarization with Edmonton Zones’ Home Living operational standards, procedures and guidelines. Training with electronic information systems used in Home Living. Knowledge of client centered approach to service; knowledge of internal and external resources and legislation relevant to Home Living. Experience and/or participation in Home Care redesign and redevelopment projects currently underway with Alberta Health.
