The Legislative Assembly of Ontario seeks a Director, House Publications and Language Services who, as part of our House Publications and Language Services Branch, in Toronto, ON, will oversee the production and delivery of Hansard, Votes and Proceedings, Orders and Notices, Journals and Status of Business. Additionally, you will oversee the timely provision of simultaneous interpretation and translation services. All services are delivered in a fast-changing, time-driven production environment.

What You’ll Do

You’ll act with integrity to:
Provide leadership and manage the House Publications and Language Services Branch.

Develop work performance goals and manage performance through review, coaching and counselling.

Create a positive environment and establish cohesive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Exercise the utmost sensitivity, tact, integrity and good judgment in a fast-paced, politically sensitive environment when dealing with MPPs, staff of the Legislative Assembly and vendors.

You’ll support our collaboration as you:
Ensure quality and accuracy in the timely production of transcripts of House and committee proceedings.

Ensure timely and accurate production and posting of House publications: Votes and Proceedings, Orders and Notices Paper, Journals, and Status of Business.

Direct the provision of simultaneous bilingual interpretation services for the Legislative Assembly and its committees.

Oversee the provision of translation services to other branches of the Legislative Assembly.

Direct programs and staff of the Branch by planning, budgeting and allocating resources, monitoring performance and controlling costs.

Develop and modify Branch operations to ensure timeliness in delivery of services.

Manage staff relations for the Branch in areas of staffing, training and development, attendance and performance management-related requirements.

Keep up-to-date with trends in technology pertaining to digital recording, speech recognition, and electronic distribution methods of all Legislative publications to ensure efficient operations.

Qualifications

You demonstrate excellence through your:
Formal training/education and 7 to 10 years of on-the-job editing and publishing experience

Familiarity with operations, goals and objectives of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario or a similar work environment

Knowledge of simultaneous interpretation protocols and techniques, as well as elements necessary for successful provision of interpretation services

Knowledge of computer technology systems and related software applications to assess suitability and guide procurement

Familiarity with digital recording and other relevant technologies to determine best practices in generation of transcripts and service provision

Salary Range: $130,930 – $175,070 per annum
