Do you thrive on new ideas? Are you passionate about libraries’ contribution to strengthening communities, and have a demonstrated ability to foster inclusive work environments and collaborate with staff, board and stakeholders? Then this could be your dream position. Midland Public Library is seeking a new CEO, and this is a library that delights in building community excitement. MPL is a community hub initiator – from an annual community block party to Wi-Fi lending.
Located in the heart of Georgian Bay, Midland offers myriad year-round outdoor activities, watersports, cultural events, and historic sites. The population of over 17,000 continues to grow and increases dramatically in the summer months. Being on a major highway 1.5 hours from Toronto and minutes from Huronia airport make Midland a desired destination. Its economy has a very strong industrial base as well as a thriving tourism sector.
The new incumbent will address both opportunities and issues:
Engage in fundraising as needed for the new initiatives and expanded capital projects
Support the board in developing long-term strategic directions, annual operating plans, and managing the existing debt resulting from the renovation
Envision and implement service strategies to reach residents and businesses in all areas
Clarify and foster relationships and responsibilities with the Town, particularly collaborating with the CAO and other Town staff and organizational units
Work with the Town on long-term facility plans and management of a heritage facility that is a focal point of the downtown core.
This position will appeal to those who are enthusiastic about the difference community-led libraries make and who have:
A graduate-level degree in library-information science (preferred) or comparable level of education (including and not limited to business, technology, or public administration)
Five years management experience including financial planning and management, policy development, strategic planning, project management and personnel management
A strong understanding of emerging trends, new technologies and advancements in libraries
Political acuity and ability to adapt to political changes
Clear understanding of the CEO’s role and relationships with the board, town staff, council, community influencers and decision-makers
A sincere desire to be a champion of and key contributor to the growing and evolving Midland community.
