POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
OBJECTIVE: To assist in development of new and existing Anti-Human Trafficking programs and projects, as per funder requirements.
SUPERVISION: The Program Assistant reports directly to the Manager and Director, Anti-Human Trafficking Programs.
TERMS:
- Temporary, full-time contract (no benefits)
- Start date: August 15, 2021 (27-week contract)
TIME & HOURS:
- Tuesday to Saturday; 9:00am-5:00pm (40 hours/week)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist Management team in the development of new and existing Anti-Human Trafficking Programs and projects as per funding requirements.
- Utilise knowledge of issues pertaining to human trafficking & exploitation, women, domestic violence/abuse, mental health, addictions, homelessness, employment, and internal policies and procedures to develop program materials.
- Responsible to model positive behaviours & boundaries to clients and contribute to the mission and goals of the Salvation Army.
- Participate in monthly staff Case Management Meetings and Living Hope Life Skills sessions as required.
- Assist in the development of administrative frameworks and best practices for program delivery.
- Assist in the development of written materials, teaching modules, and multi-media.
- Work alongside and assist volunteers to implement programming.
- Coordination and administrative assistance in delivery of designated programs.
- Ensure that program procedures are maintained.
- Provide client with referral services within the community and / or social services resources.
- Assist management in providing input with regard to the development of appropriate program planning.
- Assist management in the evaluation of program progress by conducting research and evaluative studies.
- Coordinate and participate in stakeholder evaluations.
- Assist management in developing partnerships with outside stakeholders for client participation, and attend offsite meetings with stakeholders as required.
- Ensure client supervision and safety in designated programs and comply with relevant program Policies and Procedures.
- Assess client suitability to internal and external programs and agencies as required.
- Maintain appropriate records and statistics, ensures that all required documentation is accurate and complete.
- Attend and participate in meetings as required.
- Assist management in requesting donations and developing in-kind partnerships in the community in agreement with the current policies of the Salvation Army.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
- This position is required to work in a stressful environment dealing with clients in crisis situations brought about by diverse problems. The ability to function independently and frequently under pressure, while managing multiple concurrent tasks including emergency situations is an ongoing expectation of this position. Direct program activities may require a moderate level of physical ability to effectively carry out the duties of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- Completion of Grade 12 or the equivalent education.
- Possesses valid First Aid/CPR certificate or obtains as condition of employment prior to end of probationary period
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention, or the willingness to be trained.
Experience:
- At least one year recent, relevant experience in administration and research relating to women, domestic violence/abuse, substance abuse, mental health, and homelessness issues is required for this position.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Mature individual, who is committed to the mission of the Salvation Army and is willing and able to work within the Salvation Army doctrine and theology
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in women’s and children’s issues; ability to apply this knowledge in the identification and assessment of needs and in making appropriate recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to compassionately apply policy and procedures in stressful situations.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability in Microsoft Office, the internet, and multi-media creation
- Demonstrated knowledge of theory, principles and practices specifically in the human services field.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
OTHER CONDITIONS / REQUIREMENTS
- Successful obtainment of clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry.
- Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Record Check under the Criminal Records Review Program.
- Successful obtainment of Enhanced Reliability Status Security Clearance.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
