Cavendish Farms is looking to employ a Facilities Manager with an outstanding knowledge of building trades, cleaning procedures and maintenance. Reporting to the Director of Ag Research & Breeding, the Facilities Manager is responsible for maintaining the Research Centre and properties, working with vendors and contractors and overseeing capital projects. The Facilities Manager should apply their functional expertise to negotiate contracts and oversee their proper fulfillment within set timelines and budget. In addition, the role requires coordination of building contractors, utility companies and other entities providing services to Cavendish Farms. To ensure success, the Facilities Manager should display strong problem solving and decision-making skills with a solid understanding of building maintenance, repairs, cleaning and staff management.
A Facilities Manager is expected to have great organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated leadership, strong communication skills and attention for detail are a must.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Inspect sites regularly to identify problems and provide necessary maintenance.
- Coordinate daily cleaning and maintenance activities.
- Oversee all repairs and ensure that work is completed on time.
- Maintain all inventory and equipment, including chemicals, and ensure proper storage.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations and practices on site.
- Inspect and maintain building systems such as heating, electrical, air conditioning, ventilation etc.
- Keep in check and regulate budget and track facility management expenditures.
- Forecast, allocate, and drive cost improvements for the physical resources of facilities.
- Vendor management and regular review of service contracts.
- Develop short and long-term plans for the maintenance, and updates of the facilities.
- Recommend maintenance, mechanical, electrical, and facility modifications.
- Schedule and manage fleet maintenance of farm equipment and vehicles.
- Collaborate with research management on organizing capital projects including defining the scope of work, generating competitive bids, and managing contractors/vendors.
- Responsible for the required infrastructure and installment of equipment/machinery.
- Advocate a world-class safety culture through effective preventative maintenance programs and ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies and local policies.

Requirements:
- 5 years’ experience in facility management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience in maintenance, manufacturing, or facility management.
- Strong knowledge in facility planning, contract negotiations and building modifications.
- A valid driver license with the ability to obtain forklift operator certifications.
- Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, problem solving & organizational skills.
- Strong knowledge of building trades, cleaning procedures and building management.
- Solid understanding of health and safety regulations and practices.
- Effective budgeting and performance management experience.
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Proven ability to work well under pressure and meets tight deadlines.
- Experienced using Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word and Internet Explorer
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in conditions with high humidity and varying temperatures
- Ability to lift up to 20‐50 pounds
- Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time
Work Schedule
- This position requires a 40‐hour minimum work per week, in addition to nights, weekends, and holidays, per business needs.
