POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Prevention Services works closely and collectively with our five bands and communities to prevent children and families’ association with the governmental child welfare system. The Director of Prevention Services leads the Youth Team Leader, Family Enrichment Team Leader, Child Wellness Team Leader, and the Prevention Assistant. The incumbent supports the teams in planning, developing, and delivering holistic, family-based programs and services for children, young people, families, and communities. The Director of Prevention Services is responsible for providing culturally appropriate preventative services and supports under nłeʔkepmx and syilx practice frameworks, enhancing relationships and wellness of children, youth, and families in the Nicola Valley. Emphasis is on the preservation, restoration, and reunification of families.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Indigenous Studies, or a field of study relevant to the position duties
Minimum of five years’ experience working with Indigenous families and communities
Minimum of three years’ of multi-level leadership experience in a social service setting
Experience with the financial responsibility of programs and services over 1 million dollars
Expert knowledge of child-centred and family-based services with a strengths-based approach
Experience in a Delegated Aboriginal Agency is an asset but not required

Knowledge and sensitivity of the historical and systemic impacts of intergenerational trauma on Indigenous families and communities from colonialism, residential school history, the sixties scoop, and association with the child welfare system

Comprehensive understanding and utilization of local Indigenous cultural and traditional approaches as a priority over Western methodologies
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office and other IT platforms for word processing, databases, reports, online communications, and spreadsheets
Proven record of strong organizational and excellent communication skills, with strengths in public speaking, facilitation, and written communications
Capable of multitasking with the ability to meet tight deadlines, with accuracy in detailed work
Ability to work independently and collaboratively under minimal supervision
Recognizes and respects all cultural diversity and has an understanding of nłeʔkepmx and syilx cultures
