        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Position Summary

The Children/Youth Coordinator coordinates activities associated with discipleship and outreach ministries to inner-city youth (for assigned age groupings) from the Church and the local community.

Usual week hours are 25 per week, including Sundays and some evenings.

One year full- time term position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

In order to provide oversight to the Children & Youth ministry of Weetamah, the successful applicant will be someone who:

  • Contributes to the spiritual and pastoral development of the children and youth in the church by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviours
  • Observes the surrounding community to understand the unique context of Inner City youth ministry so that relevant programs can be developed
  • Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates programs/ministries relevant to the children and youth of the community (including Kid’s Club, Sunday School, and other children and youth programs) with minimal supervision
  • Gives oversight to Kid’s Camp and/or Vacation Bible School and Summer Ministries
  • Assists in the planning of strategies to integrate church ministries into the surrounding community
  • Interacts with community partners and resources to provide services to children and youth; may include participation on community committees
  • Makes intentional and ongoing connections with children and families within the community through visitation in order to build relationships and establish active links with the church and its mission and ministries
  • Works in connection with Corps Officers (Pastors) and Community Ministry Coordinator to provide additional spiritual and material support to children, youth and families.
  • Assists with the preparation of the annual Children and Youth Department Budget
  • Organizes and holds fundraising events periodically to sustain programs and Children and Youth Coordinator costs
  • Maintains written records/logs of activities (including activity reports and statistical information)
  • Recruits, trains, supervises and empowers program volunteers
  • Knows and acts in accordance with security procedures of the church and community services to ensure safety and confidentiality of participants
  • Supports Christmas Ministries (Toy Mountain, Kettles, Community Meals)
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

The successful job applicant will have completed high school, plus specialized courses or equivalent experience related to the position.

EXPERIENCE:

Three to five years of work experience recommended in children and youth ministry.

SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:

Diploma or certification in Child and Youth Related program or Biblical Studies considered an asset.

There must also be completion or intended completion and maintenance of updated:

  • Clear vulnerable adult and child registry checks
  • Clear criminal record check
  • Non-violent crisis intervention
  • Emergency first aid
  • Class 4 license

 

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Ability to frequently lift materials, be physically active within programming and keyboarding
  • Self-motivated and has an attention to detail
  • Excellent oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal communication skills
  • A team player that demonstrates coordination abilities, and a willingness to learn
  • Ability to actively listen, observe body language, continuously monitor the environment
  • Ability to provide oversight of department income, expenses and budgeting
  • Ability to recruit, train, and direct volunteers. Ensure all required working with children processes are completed and maintained for volunteers
  • Work with inner-city youth and families with complex family history and daily struggles
  • Ability to deal with frequent interruptions and able to  multitask
