        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

This is a temporary, part-time position based upon 16 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break.  The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.

Shifts: 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Friday and Saturday, and Statutory Holidays when required

Start Date:  As soon as possible

End Date:  February 1, 2022 (with possibility of extension)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working closely with the Program Manager and Case Work team, assess shelter clients’ individual needs
  • Focus on early intervention/diversion
  • Meet with clients and assist them in setting realistic personal goals to enable them to move out of the shelter and along the housing continuum to more suitable accommodations
  • Maintain regular follow-up with each client to achieve their goals
  • Make appropriate referrals to other services, both in-house and to partner agencies in the community, as necessary
  • Assist in completing all necessary paperwork
  • Complete concise and accurate case notes and files on each client
  • Attend shift change meetings and case conferences as required
  • Attend staff meetings, training workshops and conferences as required and authorized
  • Demonstrate familiarity with The Salvation Army Booth Centre’s policies and procedures
  • Record any appropriate information in Log Books, on HIFIS and/or Incident Reports, if appropriate
  • Be available to offer support to enable the client to maintain his housing, if appropriate
  • Meet with Program Manager for regular supervision and engage in formal evaluation meetings
  • Represent The Salvation Army Hamilton Booth Centre in a professional and effective manner
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of Social Service Worker (SSW) diploma or Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from a recognized college/university; post graduate studies in a related field would be a definite asset
  • Minimum of two years of related experience in a social services setting, preferably in a shelter
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills
  • Must be computer literate and efficient in Windows and Microsoft Office Experience using HIFIS preferred
  • Ability to assist clients to effectively establish, implement and meet their individual life goals, particularly as it relates to their housing
  • Demonstrated ability to work with the homeless and socially disadvantaged individuals
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and show compassion to those suffering from mental illness and/or addiction
  • Maturity and ability to exercise sound judgement and boundaries in a shelter environment
  • Ability to work with marginalized clients that may harbor anger and resentment towards helping professions
  • Ability to work both independently and under supervision
  • Ability to lift/move 40 lbs. (18.14 kgs)
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of Community-based resources
  • Possess current First Aid, NVCI and CPR certificates
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
