Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides leadership and direction to the Annual Giving team with respect to fundraising and stewardship activities to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospects resulting in increased fundraising revenue and donor retention across the annual, major and planned giving portfolios.
Develops and manages the program’s strategic and operating plans, budget, performance metrics and related goals and objectives.
Ensures effective planning and implementation of program strategies for annual giving programs to increase annual giving to BCIT, including personalized cultivation and solicitation of annual donors and recognition for Foundation donors.
Develops compelling cases for support including customized proposals, grant proposals, appeal letters, and other materials to secure donations; executes through direct mail, social media, email and telephone campaigns.
Ensures the Annual Giving and Stewardship team operates in accordance with the Canada Revenue Agency and the Foundation’s stewardship and gift acceptance policies.
Develops and executes a comprehensive planned giving strategy to raise profile of planned giving opportunities, increase number of expectancies and increase funds raised through planned gifts.
Performs program and donor analysis, monitors results, analyzes trends and takes corrective actions as needed, ensuring reasonable accuracy and integrity of annual donor database, incorporating best practices for maximum efficiency, program specific reporting and segmentation of data to deliver fundraising results.
Develops and implements annual endowment upgrade campaign to encourage endowment holders to build their endowments to provide a consistent level of support that keeps pace with student need.
Develops and advances the Foundation’s strategic directives through targeted communication and donor relations strategies, such as the BCIT Foundation annual giving report, information brochures, articles, testimonials, e-materials, donor thank you letters and other marketing materials to keep donors and stakeholders connected to BCIT.
Develops and implements strategic direct response campaigns to increase annual and alumni giving and to increase awareness and support for philanthropy at BCIT.
Develops best practice standards and leads implementation of recognition and stewardship for acknowledgment of BCIT Foundation donors including publications, recognition plaques, signage, stewardship reports, events and other methods as appropriate, in accordance with BCIT Naming Policy and in collaboration with staff.
Manages directly and indirectly reporting staff, overseeing and participating in selection, coaching, mentoring, development, performance management and all other people-management practices.
Participates as a member of the Advancement Division management team, ensuring strategic alignment between the Annual Giving and Stewardship Program and Advancement Division’s strategic goals.
Works closely with departments across BCIT and keeps abreast of best post-secondary practices to influence positive change and provide solutions.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
University degree plus minimum five years of directly related fundraising and stewardship experience at a senior level, preferably in a post-secondary institution.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic and creative fundraising plans with clear performance metrics and goals.
Demonstrated ability in building successful donor relationships, identifying prospects, cultivating and securing donations that support organizational goals and objectives.
Advanced oral and written communication, proposal-writing, problem-solving, conflict resolution, negotiation and organizational skills.
Ability to work cooperatively to achieve common goals; working collaboratively while providing the best quality product available and continuously upgrading standards to maintain quality, in all areas of responsibility.
Advanced leaderships skills and ability to provide direction and motivation to others through communication, modeling appropriate behavior, optimism and high achievement
Strong ability to plan, initiate, manage achievements against key metrics and complete projects on time and on budget.
Knowledge of database management, gift processing and donor relations.
Openness to new ideas and ability to react and adapt to changing situations appropriately.
Demonstrated ability to listen carefully to, and understand, customers’ needs, both internally and externally, exercising sound judgment, tact, discretion and diplomacy and proactively responding to those needs in a consistent and timely manner.
Demonstrated analytical and fundraising skills with the ability to recognize opportunities and prioritize them to attain goals.
