One of the sunniest regions in BC’s Lower Mainland, Delta embraces three unique communities – Ladner, North Delta and Tsawwassen. The City of Delta is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team and share in our commitment to lead the way in public service excellence.
Delta has always demonstrated a strong commitment to the promotion of healthy, well- balanced lifestyles for its citizens through the provision of outstanding programs, services and amenities overseen by the City’s Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture. The impact of COVID-19 has only served to increase this commitment and the City is searching for a progressive and passionate leader to take on this key leadership role, that is a result of a planned retirement.
The Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture is responsible for the professional leadership and strategic management of key functions including the provision of affordable and accessible recreation, parks, green spaces and cultural activities in the City of Delta. The Director reports to the City Manager and provides strategic advice to the organization, Mayor and Council, in support of the City of Delta’s Strategic Plans and Council direction and priorities. The Director oversees a budget of approximately $30 million dollars and has accountability for a significant capital budget and asset management plan focused on revitalization and renewal of a number of the City’s assets. In addition, the Director is responsible for developing a long-term strategic plan for the functional area, considering the wide array of partners that contribute to the overall well being of the community.
As the ideal candidate, you are a civic leader and innovative professional with extensive experience in service delivery and operations, ideally with parks, recreation and community development knowledge. You possess exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to develop credibility and effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, community leaders and a variety of external stakeholders. With a focus on community initiatives, you are truly customer service oriented with a capacity to create a long-term vision and execute on that vision. Your years of progressively more senior responsibility are augmented by a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
