Alberta Health Service’s Centre for the Advancement of Surgical Education and Simulation (CASES) offers cutting-edge expertise in surgical education, training and simulation. This progressive Centre develops and delivery surgical programs throughout Alberta and western Canada.

Description:
The Education Coordinator plays an integral role in the development and implementation about evidence-based education about teaching and learning and minimally invasive surgery throughout this province as well as nationally. This position has lead responsibility in program planning, development coordination and implementation of educational programs for surgeons, nurses, residents, fellows, medical students and the broader community using simulation and other educational methods. Program delivery occurs using face-to-face, distance, blended synchronous and asynchronous formats. Through active relationship building with AHS staff and management, clinical faculty, and external partners and stakeholders, the education coordinator ensures quality in the process of curriculum development, implementation and educational programming review. Maintains documentation of Fellowship Council website on behalf of the CASES Medical Director, receives and responds to all fellowship inquiries, coordinates the annual interview process, maintains Fellow surgical statistics, coordinates Fellowship Council Accreditation activities including advocating and supporting the Bariatric Center of Excellence process as well as any other related fellowship activities. All Non-Union/Exempt positions are being reviewed for possible inclusions in the AUPE General Support Services bargaining unit. Required Qualifications:
Post-secondary degree in an education/health services/sciences related field (i.e. Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, Health Care Administration, Nursing, Health Information/Informatics). Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in education and be proficient at applying educational theories and models to solve problems at an appropriate scale. Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working with multilevel and multidiscipline health care providers specifically including physicians. Additional specialized training relative to curriculum development and delivery. Broad clinical background to actively participate in multilevel clinical discussions. Expertise in curriculum and educational calendar design and promotion. Expertise in conducting needs assessments and program planning. Exceptional oral and written communication skills with advanced experience in working on cross-functional teams.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Excellent computer skills including: proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, data analysis (both quantitative and qualitative), as well as an ability to learn new software and explain emergent software development needs to technical staff. Working knowledge of high technology devices such as videoconference and telehealth equipment. Knowledge of Health Information Act and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
