The Community Safety and Well-Being Branch of Integrated Justice Services is a fast-paced work environment that supports a number of key strategic portfolios under the Ministry of Integrated Justice Services. Our Branch is seeking a dynamic, influential, and flexible big-picture-thinker for the position of Assistant Director, Community Safety and Well-Being.

Reporting to the Director of Community Safety and Well Being and supported by the ministries’ policy and project management staff, your primary responsibility will be managing key strategic portfolios in order to drive community development initiatives, strategic planning, program and policy development, evaluation and program review and program design and implementation. Your portfolio could contain one or more of the following:

Gang Violence Reduction Strategy;

Accelerating the utilization of Restorative Justice in Saskatchewan;

Establishing where program modernization should occur and leading modernization projects; and

Supporting local strategies and plans that coordinate the work of all human service partners.

In this role you will provide expert advice and leadership to:

The staff of Community Safety and Well-Being,

The ministries’ Executive Team; and

A wide array of inter-ministry, community-based organizations, police agencies, First Nations organizations and municipal partners.

Your efforts will focus on the design, development, delivery and maintenance of programs, services and strategies that fit within the Community Safety and Well-Being framework. You will be responsible to ensure that the program and services that Community Safety and Well-Being supports are having a positive impact on clients and community. As part of this role, you will be responsible to manage government resources efficiently and effectively within approved budgets, department and government policies and procedures and management practices.

Our candidate of choice will possess superior leadership and interpersonal skills, combined with a comprehensive knowledge of complex social issues and a broad knowledge of related public policy issues and implications. Negotiation, collaboration, collective impact and community development experience and skills are essential. At times, this position will require extensive travel throughout the province.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be acquired through a Master’s degree in the social sciences with progressive leadership experience or an equivalent combination of related experience and training.
