Director, International Education

The Director, International Education is responsible for the overall management and performance of the department of International Education in accordance with the mission, values, goals, and policies of Okanagan College (OC). The Director provides administrative support and leadership in conjunction with program deans and directors for programs and services delivered to incoming international students and domestic students studying abroad. The Director is responsible for advancing and sustaining Okanagan College’s international recruitment, internationalization initiatives and the expansion of International Education Programs including: proposing and implementing business development strategies; the achievement of significant annual revenue targets; furthering the internationalization of all OC campuses and the development and implementation of effective global marketing of Okanagan College’s courses and programs with the purpose of: increasing the enrolment of international students; procuring of international contracts; developing student exchange programs, and enhancing the breadth of OC’s external studies programs.

The Director has an institution-wide responsibility for promoting and advancing the international dimensions of OC working in close cooperation with other administrators, faculty and instructors.

The Director fosters an environment which is supportive of learning organization principles, and is committed to providing quality educational service through the active development of continuous quality improvement initiatives.

The Director has overall responsibility for personnel matters affecting the Department. The Director provides leadership and direction for all employees, which includes fostering an atmosphere of cooperation, encouraging innovative program and project development, establishing an appropriate level of professionalism, developing partnerships both within and outside of the institution, and recommending appropriate professional development activities.

The Director recommends the annual operating and capital budgets for the Department. The Director manages the financial performance of the Department and program on an ongoing basis in relation to budget and performance targets, is responsible for authorizing expenditures within approved budgets, and takes corrective action if required.

The Director is a member of the senior management team and, as such, participates in institution-wide long and short-term planning, budget and policy development, and educational planning. The Director is responsible for ensuring that international needs and perspectives are represented and appropriately incorporated into institutional plans. Liaison with other portfolios and departments with respect to their international aspirations and objectives is undertaken upon mutual agreement.

The Director is responsible for developing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of internal groups, including other OC portfolios, departments, regional deans, and administrative staff. The Director also fosters effective relationships with a range of external bodies concerned with international education and development both within and outside of Canada.

The Director maintains current knowledge of developments in the international education field and in post-secondary education, and maintains awareness of trends and conditions affecting the programs and activities for which the position is responsible.

Education and Experience

Masters Degree in Business Administration or in a discipline related to the position.

10 years of relevant experience, including 5 years experience working in a management role related to international education. Experience in revenue generation and business development with emphasis on marketing techniques required. Knowledge of the current international education environment and developing global and local trends with a high degree of cultural awareness is also required.

Preferred: Teaching experience at the post-secondary level would be a significant asset. Familiarity with citizenship and Immigration Canada policies and procedures pertaining to International students would be beneficial.

Schedule

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate Range $107,055 to $164,151. Typical Hiring Range $128,466 – $142,740.

Appointment Type Exempt – Continuing Full-time
