A highly motivated, dynamic and dedicated professional to join our academic team in an Assistant Director of Studies role. The Assistant Director of Studies (ADOS) is responsible for supporting the academic management and administration of the school, ensuring the academic quality of curriculum and program delivery is of the highest standard. Key elements of the role include instructor recruitment, training, onboarding, performance management, and professional development initiatives.
Job Responsibilities:
Foster instructor engagement to provide an exceptional workplace experience and improve program delivery
Support the implementation of plans, policies, strategies, and key projects for the Academic Department
- Build strong relationships with all student services and operational staff, including other ILAC team members, in support of making teaching and learning central to educational excellence · Work in collaboration with the Director of Studies (DOS) and other functional departments to support student success related to the following: retention initiatives, attendance, student satisfaction surveys, classroom performance, time to graduation/completion of levels
Provide academic leadership and train, develop, manage, and lead faculty and staff team members according to the guidelines provided by the DOS and Head of Academic & Compliance
Contribute to a teacher culture that reflects ILAC’s values, vision, and purpose
In collaboration with Campus Managers and Director of Studies, train, support, coach, and enable instructors to be the best teachers they can be
Support a learning culture that encourages knowledge sharing, feedback, growth, and a commitment to life-long learning
- Be a trusted advisor and coach for ILAC teachers
- Support the teacher recruitment cycle, including management of the TESOL Diploma program, to ensure high quality teacher and staffing needs are met
Communicate teacher class schedules as allocated by the Director of Studies
Manage supply teacher schedules, request for leave, and emergency class coverage
Maintain current knowledge of program standards and regulations (Languages Canada, TESL Canada), including trends in English Language Training (ELT)
Lead and co-develop in-house teacher professional development workshops
Attend conferences and association meetings as required (BC TEAL, Languages Canada)
Complete special projects and reports as needed
Other duties as assigned, including department wide projects
Requirements
University Degree and TESOL certificate or diploma are must have
Minimum 5 years of teaching experience
Background in management and leadership in an academic setting is desired
Effective leadership skills
Strong analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
Knowledge of curriculum and student assessment/evaluation
Negotiation and decision-making skills
Excellent English language and interpersonal skills
Strong written and verbal communication skils
