The Opportunity

The Medical Services Branch of the Ministry of Health has a great opportunity for an experienced negotiator with strong leadership and communication skills for the permanent full-time position of Director, Fee-For-Service based in Regina. This will be an exciting opportunity to utilize your skills as a leader and negotiator to plan and shape negotiations with the Saskatchewan Medical Association and other service providers.

Under the leadership of the Executive Director, Medical Services Branch this position will be responsible for:

Developing a strategic plan that is supported by processes and structures for negotiating and implementing compensation for physician services involving several key health stakeholders;

Acting as the primary contact and liaison on fee-for-service negotiations with provider member organizations;

Providing leadership and advice to Ministry executives on the implementation of fee-for-service compensation matters that impact almost $600M in annual spending;

Working in collaboration with the Director, Non-Fee-For-Service to ensure principled alignment and consistency in compensation structures, incentives, and accountabilities; and

Maintaining working knowledge and relationships that ensure timely access to current inter-provincial data on compensation and service details.

The Ideal Candidate

As our ideal candidate, you will be a results-oriented individual with strong verbal and written communications skills. You will demonstrate:

Knowledge of negotiating frameworks and principles;

Extensive experience working in high-pressure/high-stakes negotiating environments;

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational management skills;

The ability to lead and manage in a complex business structure while sustaining a positive work environment;

The ability to develop and maintain professional relationships and partnerships with external and internal stakeholders, including building consensus, exercising sound judgment and demonstrating discretion when handling confidential and controversial issues; and

The ability to lead in a diverse team setting as well as being self-motivated and flexible in order to adapt to a dynamic environment and respond effectively to multiple issues.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through the completion of formal training in negotiations, corporate planning or other related disciplines, supplemented with several years of experience in public sector management directly linked to public sector decision-making and operational planning/development.
