Description
The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Kingston Citadel and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for the Christmas program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution
- Assist with pick-ups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle
- Assist with set up and take down of toy and food Christmas hamper distribution centre
- Provide assistance with sorting toy donations
- Record statistical data in a clear, organized and accurate manner
- Attend and complete meeting minutes
- Respond to telephone calls and written correspondence
- Complete applications with applicants
- Manage and sort duplicate applications as required
- Perform other position related duties as required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary position
- 37.5 hours per week. Regular work week. Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break
- Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per the Christmas Hamper/Toy Mountain Campaign operational requirements
- Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification
- Local travel may be associated with this position
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed High School or equivalent
- Related experience is an asset

- Represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner
- Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
- Good organization, communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy work environment
- Proficient in working in a computerized environment; must demonstrate strong skills using Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Power Point
- Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change
- Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability
- Compliance with all Salvation Army policies, procedures and associated legislation
- Participate in mandatory orientation training, on-going professional development and training
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution
- Ability to lift up to 40 lb.
