Description
The Cook prepares and serves nutritious meals as outlined on menus in accordance with applicable food service and safety regulations.
Hours:
- On-Call days and afternoons. Flexibility is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with Food Services Coordinator and follows the meal plan and recipes laid out for food preparation
- Prepares meals; may prepare for special dietary needs of the residents
- Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
- Makes good use of and decides on the best use of resources, including donations to minimize waste
- Follows guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitors practices to ensure adherence
- May supervises students, volunteers, and/or guests
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:
- The successful job applicant will have completed High School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months and/or Cooks papers (1 yr. course)
- Food Safe Certification Up to Date
- WHMIS Training
- First Aid/CPR
Experience:
- One to three years of prior related experience, with at least one year of institutional cooking experience.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Familiarity with cleaning supplies and janitorial procedures
Preferred Skills/Capabilities:
- Ability to work alongside people who are homeless with possible mental health and addictions issues
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to lift more than 20lbs
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, will be required to provide:
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
