        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

This is a permanent full time position for twenty-five (25) hours per week.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  The operational hours of this facility 24/7.

Shifts: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Opportunity for increased hours dependent on deep cleans, and numbers of persons in shelter.

Start Date:  September 27, 2021

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures the general upkeep of facility: cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage, occasional vacuuming
  • Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required
  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as: cleaning outdoor main floor windows, litter collection, sweeping sidewalks
  • Check doors / windows to ensure security; provide access to facility; secure facility as needed, report health and safety issues
  • Restock washroom supplies, distribute received material as required
  • Spot wash walls / doors; spot shampoo carpet as required, vacuum mats
  • Collect linens (i.e., bedding), following hazardous materials procedures
  • Sanitization of bed, and all furniture contained therein upon guest departure
  • Responsible for facility laundry (linens, towels, kitchen laundry, etc.)
  • Order / receive / store/ redistribute supplies to appropriate departments and storage areas.
  • Provide suggestions to management as required and applicable that may improve efficiency, working conditions and/or procedures.
  • Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army and The Sudbury Cedar Place
  • Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Engage in formal evaluation sessions and supervision at 3 and 6 months during the first year of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Read and follow Policy & Procedures Manual and Employee Handbook. Every employee must read and sign that they have read, a copy of the Policies and procedures and understand that they will be required to adhere to all guidelines in their dealings with Residents and Clients, as well as with Staff and Administration.
  • Redirect clients to appropriate Residential, Support and/or overnight Workers.
  • Become familiar with the provisions of the Position Description and Operational Manual which will be provided for the position.
  • Working understanding of hazardous materials and their disposal, communicable disease manual, and deep cleansing accordingly to policy and the Local Sudbury Health Unit
  • Knowledge and use of best practice and know how to use Universal Precautions
  • Strong organizational and initiative an asset
  • Bilingualism an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • The successful applicant will hold a grade 12 OSSD
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC) which includes Vulnerable population check
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training
  • WHMIS
  • Onsite e-Training and working with Children
  • Must be able to ascend/descend flights of stairs
  • Experience working with a vulnerable population.
  • More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience,
  • and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  • The performance of the job requires operating cleaning equipment and tools, steamer, mopping and sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.
  • Suitable written and oral skills
  • The incumbent is required to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally
  • Be familiar with the Ontario Health and Safety codes and standards
