        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

Valid BC Driver’s License

The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory requires an overarching, integrated, modern approach to internal communications. Reporting to the Director of Internal Communications and Editor-in-Chief, the Manager of Internal Communications has overall accountability for developing a communications strategy for internal audiences and co-ordinating/producing deliverables that will engage and inspire. The incumbent will also provide support to internal partners – territorial, divisional and area leaders and department heads – for their communication needs. The Manager of Internal Communications will work closely with other communications experts (e.g. Managing Editor, Manager of Video Production) and territorial headquarters departments (e.g. Human Relations, IT, Program) to ensure the appropriate integration of key messages that impact both internal and external audiences, all within the framework of the territory’s mission, vision and core values.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership

  • Conduct a strategic assessment of the current internal communication resources, needs and opportunities and recommend a structure and key points of collaboration for success
  • Assist Director of Internal Communications to build, launch and maintain an internal communications strategy that serves officers, employees, and volunteers across the territory
  • Liaise with Mobilize 2.0 team (territorial transformation project) to support key messaging/channels and help disseminate territorial communications that meet their goals.
  • Provide communications leadership and establish the role as a valuable, innovative partner to executive management and senior leaders

Communication Programs Leadership

  • Develop and deploy effective and efficient processes and protocols for communicating with key audiences: officers, employees, volunteers and congregants
  • Develop an annual/monthly editorial calendar for internal communications to support territorial priorities and ensure the right message, to the right audience at the right time, with accountabilities
  • Lead the development, coordination and production of territory-wide communications projects and programs for internal audiences, aligned to TSA strategy and plans, including organizational announcements, senior leadership messages, etc.
  • Develop and track metrics and KPIs to measure the impact of internal communications, designing and implementing tools that encourage and facilitate audience feedback; monitor and review feedback results and present to senior leaders
  • Support the Specialists for Mission and graphic designers in creating and maintaining content for Salvationist.ca website, enewsletters, and other digital media that enhances THQ department communications for a wide audience
  • Support the construction and ongoing maintenance of an organizational intranet and partners with internal departments to support delivery of their intranet content

People Leadership

  • Manage teams of creative producers in the development of communications products to support the strategy
  • Build and maintain a pool of potential future communications resources that can be called upon as flexible, seasoned providers (i.e., freelancers, contractors, and best-of-breed vendors) when needed to meet internal communication demands
  • Manage the territorial relationship with staff, providing recruitment, guidance, coaching, direction, training, supervision, and performance management in providing territorial oversight and guidance, ensuring compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations, legislation, and TSA standards and guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications or related discipline

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years leadership experience in the communications discipline at the manager level or equivalent, in a multi-faceted national services organization that is recognized for best-practice internal communications
  • Not-for-profit sector experience is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with Indigenous culture an asset
  • French language skills an asset
  • Familiarity with Appreciative Inquiry philosophy and approach an asset
