Description
The Community Ministries Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of the Salmon Arm Lighthouse ministries (food bank and client support) ensuring the continuity and further development of these services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees daily operations of Community & Family services (food bank and other programs) ensuring that both equity and organizational values are upheld.
- Direct and supervise volunteers, which includes recruitment, selection, orientation, training, and evaluation; ensures volunteer safety in compliance with the Health & Safety Standards, monitors and analyzes incident reports, maintains volunteer files.
- Build and maintain resources available for individuals for all purposes including medical, legal, rehabilitative therapies, addiction support, shelter and housing, employment, immigration, translation, victim services, culturally appropriate healing practices and services, and faith-based services, etc.
- Receive (and/or decline) and sort/organize non-monetary donations
- Develop/foster positive relations with other social services agencies and community partners
Client Services:
- Develop and conduct workshops and programs for clients/families, as appropriate
- Take responsibility for routine intake processes and decisions, following standard procedures
- Conduct intake assessments (including evaluation of client/family protection issues), determining immediate needs and supports needed by the client
- Provide emergency assistance services in accordance with policy
- Provide emotional/spiritual support for clients/families accessing support, connect them with other community partners, as appropriate
- Coordinate and oversee seasonal or special programs (i.e. Christmas Hamper, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, Food Drives, Community Dinners, etc.)
Administration:
- Maintain confidentiality, accurately report and document within CMS database.
- Various casework duties, including analysis of data, progress reports, maintaining an up-to-date referral binder, statistical recordings
- Coordinates health & safety, accreditation standards, labour/employee relations and other related issues at an operations level.
- Ensures safety for volunteers and clients (e.g., snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside building, cleans spillage and maintains cleanliness, dealing with volatile situations); ensures that the property is secured at all times.
- In partnership with Corps Officers, establish and manage Community Ministries budget within guidelines; executes budgetary objectives through programs offered and services provided to community
- Analyzes Community Ministries financial statements and strategizes appropriate action to attain financial goals, monitoring the cost of goods (i.e., buying products from warehouse, tracking costs associated with product, etc.); send requested reports to Divisional and Regional offices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- The successful job applicant will have completed High School.
- Additional post-secondary education (e.g., diploma) related to non-profit management, operations or social services would be an asset.
Experience:
- Two years but less than five years of prior related experience including work in social services or experience in non-profits. The incumbent must also have experience in casework or counselling (one-on-one or groups)
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Excellent leadership skills and ability to communicate comfortably with fellow staff, volunteers, clients and community partners.
- Exceptional organization and timekeeping skills.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving: able to create holistic programs that meet communal need(s).
- Aware of, or willing to learn, trauma-informed care, non-violent intervention and social determinants of health.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Experience utilizing online data databases/programs; highly efficient computer user.

The performance of the job requires the ability to work independently and under pressure, while ensuring the functionality of the ministry. The successful incumbent will be an optimistic and hard worker, ready and able to lead a team through transition with kindness, compassion and efficiency.

- Completion of our online Praesidium Academy online abuse training and required Health and Safety training
