        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

Valid BC Driver’s License

We are currently hiring for the position of Shift Supervisor. This position is a part of a collaborative management team and provides day-to-day supervision of Program staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and customer service excellence to meet the needs of shelter clients in a housing focus holistic manner in accordance with Policies and Procedures.

The Shift Supervisor will be knowledgeable in Housing First case management services to assist clients in achieving housing stability in the community, ensuring appropriate support or referrals, and mediating on their behalf with other service providers. Ensure the collection of statistical data for reports, oversee the administration of clients, and assist in implementing changes to improve operational performance and service delivery.

Your ability to manage administrative duties associated with shelter operations will prove invaluable as you administer various client funds, taxis and clothing vouchers and ensure that appropriate controls and records are kept.  Excellent skills in customer service, verbal de-escalation, and crisis prevention techniques in defusing challenging situation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program and Service Responsibilities:

  • Serve actively as a member of the Management team for the Hamilton Booth Centre.
  • Assist with delivery of Case Management services including intake, support, and other direct services to residents of the facility during shift.
  • Identify, monitor, and implement housing and support based on the needs of clients in the shelter and community units.
  • Liaise with and provide outreach support for landlords, social housing providers creating a nurturing long term strategic partnership.
  • Implement and oversee the pandemic response plan in shelters and community units as required.
  • Enhance diversion practices and ensure employees understand and utilize with all clients.
  • Oversee and support frontline staff in the planning, implementation and continued direction of all program areas involving assigned clients.
  • Liaise with community resources and encourage community involvement in programs, partnerships, and program development.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the psychological and social dynamics of working with individuals who have diverse needs and interests.
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

Human Resources:

  • Hire, orientate, train, evaluate, reward and discipline in consultation with the Director of Programs or designate in compliance with Divisional and Territorial standards.
  • Schedule staff in accordance with residential standards as required.
  • Ensure that employee files are up to date and stored in a secure area.
  • Hold regular team meetings with program frontline staff for client and program updates.

Financial and Administration:

  • Ensure all documentation and records are completed in an organized and timely manner, i.e., shift reports, intake, program evaluations, daily logs, the collection of data and incident reports, daily and monthly statistics.

Health and Safety:

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Responsible to maintain a level of competency and understand Sections 25 and 26 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Ensure that staff maintains the security and upkeep of the building and grounds.
  • Responsible for assisting in client emergencies and report all incidents to the Executive Director or designate.
  • Monitor staff safety practices in compliance with health and safety standards, and prepares, submits, and acts on incident reports and as required.
  • Ensure that proper procedures are followed in the event of a workplace injury or illness, conducting incident investigations when required.
  • Responsible to report any serious infractions or problems in accordance with policies.
  • Provide oversight to WSIB claims and other health and safety matters as required, perform workplace inspections, participate in the supervision of Early and Safe Return to Work plans where applicable.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a temporary, full-time position based on 40 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.

Shifts: 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday

Tentative end date: May 5, 2022

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completed a post-secondary University Degree in Social Services or equivalent education.
  • Current First Aid & CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification would be an asset.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Community-based resources.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Maintain information in confidence, participate in mandatory orientation training, participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal process.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Competency in making and implementing effective decisions.

  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, own vehicle, and insurance; a current driver abstract.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
