Description
The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the St.Catharines Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide assistance with processing, uploading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for Christmas and assist with preparing donated items for distribution
- Assist with pick ups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle
- Assist with set up and take down for Christmas Programs and Christmas Kettle Campaign
- Record statistical data in clear, organized and accurate manner
- Provide assistance with the Kettle Campaign
- Perform other position related duties as required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary full-time position based on 40 -44 hours per week
- Shifts may include days, afternoons, and evening shifts, Monday through Saturday, flexibility in scheduling is required. The supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule
- Working environment is typically in the office and in community in generally agreeable conditions
- Travel is associated with this position
- Ability to lift/move more than 10lbs
Normal hours of work are from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed Secondary School
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum of one (1) year prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset
- Volunteer management skills

- Proficient in working in a computerized environment; must demonstrate strong skills using Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Power Point
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
- Honest, courteous, and punctual; prepared to act in the best interest of employer
- Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution
- Attentive listening skills for the purpose of supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
