        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

The Brantford Booth Centre is a 58-bed emergency men’s shelter and Correctional Residential Facility (CRF) offering housing and reintegration supports to those in the Brantford-Brant area. This is a busy 24/7 facility that operates from a housing-focused and harm-reduction framework to reintegrate those we serve successfully back into their communities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain food preparation and service, in accordance with the approved monthly menu.
  • Assist in the preparation and serving of all menu items; assist in the preparation for special luncheons, etc., as necessary.
  • Produce balanced meals economically by using all food donations; ensure that food waste is kept to a minimum.
  • Maintain the highest level of hygiene and cleanliness while performing all duties.
  • Ensure the kitchen, pantry, and the walk-in freezer/fridge are maintained in a clean and organized manner at all times.
  • Ensure that proper safety precautions and hygiene standards are followed, including Universal Precautions, compliance with all Health and Safety requirement.
  • Must have working knowledge of all equipment, their function, and operations.
  • Assist the Head Cook with kitchen duties, i.e., checking and putting away food orders on arrival from suppliers, with the inventory of all provisions and utensils, dishes, etc.
  • Assist the Kitchen Helper with all cleaning duties as needed.
  • Make bag lunch meals in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Prepare evening snacks for residents including those with any special dietary requirements.
  • Complete any necessary preparations for the following day.
  • Treat all clients with respect and dignity at all times.
  • Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a permanent, full-time position with 37.5 hours per week. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

Shifts: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • College diploma or Certificate of Food Management/Preparation, and/or a combination of education and life experience relative to the field of food preparation.
  • Possess current First Aid, CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Maturity and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work both independently and under supervision.
  • Ability to lift/carry loads up to forty pounds.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
