Description
To assist in the operations of collecting and processing of donations and selling goods in the Thrift Store, practicing good stewardship of our donated resources.
- Hours: Part-time (temporary)
- 22.5 hours per week. – no Sunday work.
- This is a temporary position with an estimated length of 3 months.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards
- Implements store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance”
- Replenishes inventory levels based on Supervisor’s directions
- Receives donations in a positive professional manner, helping donors if necessary move items into the Thrift Store building. Uses safe practices in lifting and moving heavy items.
- Processes donated household items by unloading, sorting, placing and loading donated items
- Sorts donated clothing by judging the condition of items, hang and prices good condition clothing
- Assists in operating the baler, compactor.
- Contributes to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring
- Contributes to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, garbage removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness)
- Processes store sales through the sales register; takes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions including visa, debit, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of High School (an alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable)
Experience:
- Up to three (3) months prior experience, including life skills
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Heavy lifting: able to lift up to 30 pounds repeatedly
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Universal precautions
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Cash register experience is an asset – but we will provide training
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
