        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

  • The Dishwasher has the following responsibilities for: cleaning of dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, and other essential materials within the kitchen.
  • The Bus Person is responsible to assist in serving meals, preparing eating areas and maintaining cleanliness in the dining rooms.
  • The Prep Cook assists the Cook in preparing meals.

Hours:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Dishwasher

  • Maintains cleanliness of work area – garbage, floors, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans
  • Responsible in putting dishes back to their proper location.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the plate racks, cup racks, equipment shelving, dishwasher, sinks and all speed racks.
  • Cleans all stainless steel after usage and mops floor when necessary.
  • Polish and maintain silverware and other metal kitchen equipment.

BUS PERSOn

  • Maintains cleanliness of work and dining areas – surfaces, chairs, tables, garbage, floors, dishes, cutlery and condiment containers, dirty dish carts and salad bar.
  • Ensure any client spills cleaned and wet floor signage put up.
  • Portions desserts for in house and shelter clients and maintains cleanliness of desert cooler.
  • Maintains and ensures the beverage station is refilled as required and cleaned regularly.
  • Interact with the cook/s on duty as to availability of fresh fruit or desserts to the loading dock by the van driver or other sources of donations.
  • Informs Supervisor, Manager or Cook when stock of food service items is running low.
  • Set-up the small and large dining rooms for breakfast, lunch and dinner services.
  • Sets up snacks for staff breaks,
  • Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
  • Follows guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitors practices to ensure adherence

PREP COOK

  • Assists in preparing meals, including dietary meals, as directed by the Cook
  • Follows work practices to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
  • Follows policy on the use of donated foods
  • Responsible for cutting all the vegetables and meats as required to assist the cooks.
  • Responsible to slice all meats (roast beef, ham, and roast pork) for food line.
  • May order food supplies

ALL POSITIONS

  • Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition as per food safety plan.
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness at all times within the kitchen and storage areas.
  • Maintains a safe environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma

Experience:  

  • Three months of prior related experience, including institutional kitchen experience or equivalent

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Willingness to adhere to the Mission Statement of Harbour Light and the values of The Salvation Army
  • The performance of the job requires frequent attention to the preparation of food, reading recipes, adhering to safety procedures and regulations and (for Prep Cook) occasionally ordering supplies.
  • The performance of the job requires a frequent amount of standing, manipulating foods and moderate amounts of lifting, cutting, chopping, carrying supplies and walking.
  • Must be fluent in English, both oral and written
  • Has the ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Is knowledgeable about food preparation and is familiar with kitchen equipment
  • Criminal Record Review Act clearance to work with vulnerable adults

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • WHIMS, First Aid, Food Safe Level I would be considered an asset
