        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Detox Worker 1 provides a safe and secure environment for residents/clients and provides practical support to re-integrate them into the community.

HOURS:

  • Shift rotation: 4 on, 5 off; 2 on, 4 off; 2 on, 4 off; 3 on, 4 off.
  • Possibility of day shifts (7:00am-7:00pm), swing shifts (10:00am-10:00pm), and night shifts (7:00pm – 7:00am). Until return of incumbent.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and moral support; may include providing safe storage and recording of prescribed medications
  • Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports
  • Provides lifeskills training (personal hygiene, mental and physical health, communication, anger management, etc.) for clients/residents
  • Acts as client advocate; acts as positive role model
  • Knowledge of alcohol and drug abuse, human behavior, and relevant community resources.
  • Complete all intake tasks: Luggage check; valuables receipt; orientation to unit, their sleeping area, detox rules and regulations, and program activities.
  • Conduct daily orientation groups to clients in detox.
  • Facilitate educational groups on a variety of topics pertinent to addictions.
  • Inform clients of the option of treatment after the detoxification period.
  • Refer clients to Social Worker for referral to treatment as necessary.  NB: It is not part of the Health Care Worker’s job to determine what type of treatment a client requires.
  • Attend to the cleanup of the bed area and re-make for next client intake.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness of unit – Spot clean floors and walls, clean washrooms as needed when janitor not on unit.
  • Collect soiled bedding and bundle it to be sent to the cleaners. Do unit laundry as necessary.
  • Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. welfare, police, parole, urgent situations)
  • Coordinates client care relating to security issues; performs bed checks and room/personal searches
  • Handles the admission, orientation, evaluation of clients’ understanding of rules, and discharge procedures; ensures the ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline
  • Answers the program department telephone and records/remits messages
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • The successful job applicant will have completed more than two (2) years of Community College.

  • Diploma or Degree in health care or resident care or a related social services field.
  • Computer literate with Microsoft Windows and Office
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Motivational Interviewing

Experience:

  • One to two years of related experience including, frontline work in a social services setting (with women/children), lifeskills and experience in a related field.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, frequently interacting with clients, attentive listening, and moderate attention when recording information.
  • The performance of the job requires keyboarding, sitting for long periods of time, and occasionally packing client/resident belongings.
