Description
The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Essex Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide assistance with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for the Christmas program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
- Assist with pick-ups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle.
- Assist with set up and take down of toy and food Christmas hamper distribution centre.
- Provide assistance with sorting toy donations.
- Answering telephone calls, taking messages and giving information about hamper application and pick up.
- Record statistical data in a clear, organized and accurate manner.
- May provide assistance in the Kettle campaign where needed.
- Perform other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary part-time position based on 24 hours per week.
- Shifts will include days, afternoons, and evening shifts, Monday through Saturday, flexibility in scheduling is required.
- The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
- Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.
- Travel is associated with this position.
- Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
- Ability to lift/move more than 10 lbs. (4.5kg).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed Secondary School
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset
- Volunteer management skills.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

- Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
- Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures and associated legislation.
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
- Ability & willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
