        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Family Life Resource Center provides women and their children with the best possible opportunity to overcome the devasting effects of abuse. For over 25 years, Family Life Resource Center has been giving help and hope to women fleeing abuse. We are committed to creating an environment that supports women and children through their transition, giving them the support and knowledge necessary to redefine a future. Unlike a first stage or crisis shelter, which responds to short-term emergencies, Family Life Resource Center is a non-profit, supportive transitional housing program, providing housing and services to women with or without children who have been victims of family violence. Family Life Resource Centre provides supportive transitional housing with 9 residential apartments.

We are looking for temporary full time Community Support & Outreach Workers to join our team and make a positive difference in the lives of women and children in the Region of Peel. This position is for 4 months with a possibility for renewal.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accompany women to appointments when necessary
  • Adhere to the Child Protection Act in particular in regard to the section on “Duty to Report”
  • Assist women in advocating for themselves
  • Assist women in developing safety strategies or safety plans for themselves and their children
  • Assist women to develop short- and long-term goals
  • Assist women to understand the cycle of abuse and the effects on themselves and their children
  • Assist women with budgeting and securing financial assistance
  • Assist women with housing applications
  • Conduct intake and discharge interviews with all clients
  • Ensure intake, discharge and all other appropriate information is complete
  • Ensure that emergency and crisis situations are approached with clear and swift decisions
  • Maintain accurate referral records and security of client files
  • Maintain client case files, data management, entering information into program data base (WISH)
  • Maintain confidential, accurate and non-judgmental documentation
  • Monitor and provide feedback to women regarding connections with other referrals
  • Participate on committees as required
  • Provides crisis and short-term supportive counselling (in residence and post-FLRC stay)
  • Share on-call responsibilities with the Executive Director, Program Supervisor, Child & Youth Worker
  • Work with women on their legal issues
  • Work with women to develop and implement transition plans sensitive to their needs
  • Actively involved in on-going Professional Development
  • Adhere to and abide by the agency’s Health and Safety Regulations
  • Agree to sign Client Confidentiality and Agency Confidentiality Statements
  • Assist in the maintenance of an anti-oppressive anti-racist work environment for staff, residents and volunteers
  • Attend training for professional development as required
  • Governed by Armagh Policy and Procedure Manual
  • Governed by Violence Against Women Act
  • Other duties or responsibilities as negotiated and assigned
  • Participate in Armagh’s Planning Sessions, Policy and Procedure Development, Information Package and Forms
  • Participate in Team Meetings and Staff Development Events
  • Read, understand and adhere to policies and procedures of Armagh
  • Work within a team environment; provide support and information to team members and assist other staff when required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • University or college degree in the human services field
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Valid WHMIS and First Aid and CPR certification

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • 1-2 years’ relevant work experience working with abused women
  • Experience in working and serving a diverse community
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s License and use of a reliable vehicle
  • Sound knowledge of issues pertaining to woman abuse, post-traumatic stress, and the social services network within the Region of Peel

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Ability to deal effectively with job related stress and handle crisis situations
  • An awareness of the safety needs of the organization and confidentiality of the clients and agency
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills (verbal and written)
  • Possess maturity and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in a second language relevant to the demographics of Peel Region is an asset
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Computer literate and database experience (Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities

HOURS: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
