Description
The Salvation Army Lakeview Manor is a 50 bed, Level 3 Nursing Home, owned, operated and accredited by The Salvation Army and licensed by the provincial government. Lakeview Manor follows a resident-focused philosophy using a team approach to enhance the quality of life for each resident. SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
To perform all related duties responsible for organizing, preparing, cooking and service of all food and beverages – including pastry, catering, and special functions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Checks daily menu and prepares and cooks meals according to planned menus and diet requisitions.
– Prepares special diets, and monitors special diets such as allergies, gluten-free, diabetic, etc.
– Prepares and handles food and supervises and serves meals for residents’ palatability and appetizing appearance of food; all served in accordance with sanitary regulations.
– Bakes items such as deserts, breads, etc.
– Caters to special functions such as meals on wheels and holiday events etc.
– Assists in the preparation, production and serving of all foods in the Department.
– Maintains standard of production in preparation of menu items.
– Operates all kitchen equipment.
– Completes general cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen equipment and surface areas.
– Coordinates and delegates duties to dietary staff.
– Arranges staff replacement.
– Assists in the supervision of dietary staff under direction of Support Services Manager.
– Removes all garbage to assigned area.
– May be responsible for ordering, purchasing, receiving, inspecting and storage/maintaining inventory of food and/or dietary supplies.
– Monitors and documents food and refrigeration temperatures.
– Practices all safe handling of food and sanitation rules and regulations as required by Public Health standards, such as storing and dating, and observes personal hygiene.
– Reports malfunctioning of equipment to department head and documents in maintenance requisition binder.
- A) Organizational Responsibilities:
– Communicates with residents, families, team members and health care professionals and/or other departments within the Nursing Home concerning dietary needs when necessary.
– Utilizes the facility’s resources, such as supplies and equipment, economically and safely.
– Demonstrates knowledge of Lakeview Manor’s philosophy, mission, policies and procedures, and conducts work in a manner consistent with this.
– Participates in the LVM continuous quality improvement initiatives to improve resident, staff, department, and facility performance outcomes.
– Develops and maintains good interpersonal and communication skills and utilizes these skills in work with residents, families, volunteers, visitors, and other staff.
– Participates in department meetings, attends in-service programs, staff and committee meetings.
– Maintains resident confidentiality and respects the resident’s right to privacy.
- D) Individual Responsibilities:
– Maintains knowledge of, and applies, policies and procedures, such as the Fire and Disaster Plan, the Infection Control and Back in Form programs, and any other site programs.
– Practices safety and sanitation rules and regulations, and observes personal hygiene.
– Reports need of repairs to supervisor, or informs maintenance personnel, using the approved communication tools.
– Has a thorough knowledge of, and is able to demonstrate, the safe use and care of supplies and assigned equipment.
– Provides a comfortable, safe and clean environment.
– Adheres to WorkSafe NB Acts & Regulations in all duties.
– Maintains professional and personal development through participation in continuous education programs, in-services, and other initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
– High school graduation or equivalent, plus additional program/courses of over one and up to two years, or equivalent, which includes a one year cook training plus blocks two and three.
– Two years of apprenticeship experience less classroom time for blocks two and three (12 weeks).
– Three months on the job training to learn special diets/resident diets, large quantity preparation, processes/routines of dietary department.
– Possesses a valid food handling course certificate.
– Good attendance record.
– Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English.
– Able to work without constant supervision.
– Flexible availability to pick up sick calls and vacation coverage shifts.

The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on the condition of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and will be required to provide proof of full vaccination, prior to their employment start date. Working Conditions: Temporary – Part Time – 56.25 hours over a six-week period/ Plus availability to pick up additional shifts.
