Administrative Assistant

The Director of Strategy and Financial Evaluation is responsible for analyzing and evaluating the critical financial decisions and strategic business alternatives of the company. While these decisions include regular and on-going aspects of the business, a significant portion of this role is focused on unique and complex financial evaluation of one-off business opportunities, thus requiring the incumbent to define the appropriate analytical approach, build unique and complex evaluation models, and the ability to build presentation materials to articulate proposals and results to enable management’s decisions. Additionally, this role entails Corporate Development responsibilities focused on financial due diligence and valuation of strategic transactions (acquisitions, joint-ventures, other partnerships). Reporting to the VP of Corporate Strategy and Finance, this role will lead a team of 4-6 (managers and individual contributors) and offers high visibility to C-Suite Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Directors.

Job Responsibilities:
Lead and manage team responsible for the evaluation of strategic business alternatives by building quantitative and qualitative analysis and providing management with financially robust evaluations of those business alternatives having the potential to alter the strategic position of the Company

Ensures comprehensive quantitative and qualitative analysis of an alternative; develops recommendations for appropriate course(s) of action; presents findings and recommendations to management and draft formal reports for review/approval by C-Suite Senior Leadership Team and Board of Directors

Responsible for financial evaluation of Corporate Development transactions (acquisitions, joint-ventures, partnerships), conducting deal financial modeling, financial due-diligence and valuation

Build Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) models, deal-structure and sensitivity models to support critical organic and inorganic opportunities

Responsible for partnering with cross-functions and leading evaluation of major business transactions including sales / commercial contracts, lease vs. buy asset decisions, capital investments or other unique business alternatives requiring evaluation to ensure sound financial decisions

Responsible for evaluating and recommending major capital expenditures for improving the strategic position of the Company’s existing assets (i.e. plant retrofit or debottlenecking projects).

Review, analyze and provide recommendations for production alternatives which could significantly or permanently alter the Company’s operations (i.e. facility expansion, closures, etc.).

Support annual strategic plan development, conducting research to understand macro developments and external factors that impact the Company’s strategic priorities

Champion ad-how projects and initiatives, as assigned or self-identified areas for improvement

Attract new talent and build the team to evolve with the growing needs of the Company

Develop a “best in class” FE&A team, evolving the function and continuously identifying opportunities to collaborate cross-functionally and serve as a value-add partner across the corporation

Matrix Responsibilities

Provides strategic direction to the FEA team concerning overall Company objectives, the role the department has in fulfilling corporate goals and each employee’s role and responsibility toward meeting those objectives

Promotes the FEA group by developing strong, trust-based relationships between department members and other CF departments through a high degree of communication across all levels of management

Successful incumbents will have:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, MBA highly preferred

10 to 15 years of progressive experience in Investment Banking or Consulting, or public company experience in Finance / Corporate Development

Minimum of five years’ experience in a management role, including building and leading a team of direct reports

Conceptual, qualitative and quantitative analysis and problem-solving

Expert knowledge of DCF (Discounted Cash Flow) models, with ability to build from scratch, or modify existing models as appropriate based on transaction needs

Innovative mindset and ability to build unique analytical approaches (tailored to the specific business challenge or need) to evaluating a business proposal or alternative

Strong initiative, a self-starter that can work autonomously and take the lead in new projects and within tight deadlines

Highly developed analytical skills, strong Excel skills (model building, complex formulae) and in-depth knowledge of software tools with the ability to decipher relevant information for large amounts of data

Written and oral communications, and presentation skills (both PowerPoint presentation building as well as oral presentation to Senior Management and broad audiences)

Academic knowledge in financial analyses, economics, modeling, accounting, and mathematics/statistics

Well-rounded understanding of business issues

Strong leadership skills, positive and proactive attitude in building and managing a team
