Description
The summer student will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Social Services Department, which supports various Social Services Ministry Units across the Canada and Bermuda Territory. The summer student will gain practical experience in clerical duties, data entry, and data analysis in the Social Services context
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide administrative support to the Social Services Department
- Enters and verifies information or data in existing formats or databases
- Maintain documentation and filing and other administration duties as required
- Attends committee meetings as needed, takes minutes and circulates minutes and agenda as requested
- Send and receive fax or email as requested
- Perform any other related duties as requested
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate must meet the following requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Program:
- Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred
- Is legally entitled to work according to the provincial / territorial legislations and regulations
Education and Experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database systems
- Preference will be given to students in the social service, nonprofit management or related field attending an accredited college/university
- Have a basic understanding of social services programs within the territory
- Have a basic understanding about governance, finance, human resources, proposal development and policy development.

- Attention to details and proficient in data analysis
- Able to operate basic office equipment (telephone system, photocopier, etc.)
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Proven ability to exercise high level of confidentiality
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills
- Able to work within the mission statement of The Salvation Army
- High energy, motivated, confident, and creative.
- Excellent reading comprehension and listening skills.
