The salary range for this position is:
Recruitment range: $63,696 – $71,690 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
Performance range: starting salary to max of $83,264 is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
The Administrative Officer (AO) supports School of Earth and Ocean Sciences (SEOS) researchers in the pursuit of ground-breaking research, and course and lab instructors and teaching assistants (TAs) in providing outstanding practical experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
The AO is the central administrative position in SEOS (a department of more than 160 personnel). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervising several personnel responsible for a wide range of administrative, teaching and technical duties; managing large budgets; providing departmental continuity by advising and supporting Directors throughout their terms; developing and coordinating the academic schedule for all SEOS courses and programs; organizing outreach teams and planning several special events every year; supporting the Safety Officer and Safety Committee; managing and programming the Bob Wright Centre (BWC) card key (Kantech) system for all tenants of the building; acting as the point person for all minor repairs and renovations; and assisting with the planning for all major construction projects (including BWC and the Marine Technology Centre (MTC).
Job Requirements
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of related administrative experience, including supervisory experience, preferably in an academic environment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
In addition, this position requires:

Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
Demonstrated proficiency in computer literacy and related technology.
Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with all stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Proven track record achieving project goals on time and producing deliverables of a high quality.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and with all levels of university personnel.
Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
Demonstrated leadership, supervisory skills and the ability to inspire a team.
Knowledge and awareness of discipline-specific labour market conditions and trends.
Basic safety training.
