Description
To provide administrative support in the areas of Payroll, Timekeeping, Employee Benefits, and maintaining an accurate and up to date filing system. Perform bookkeeping functions including, accounts payable / receivable, employee expenses, petty cash, banking and preparing / reconciling periodic financial reports.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and deposit funds to local bank, prepare Deposit Summaries and maintain records of all deposits.
– Process cash receipts and contributions / monetary donations from the general public, clients, etc.
– Maintain proper records and ensure that all legal requirements concerning the finance of the Halifax Centre of Hope are met.
– Work with accounting system concerning accounts payable & receivable.
– Petty Cash – provide support to petty cash process, including reconciliation of petty cash and requests for replenishment od petty cash.
– Prepare job postings, prepare Offer letters and all related hiring information for new employees.
– Enter and maintain employee records in payroll system, as well as maintain up to file system for employee files
– Verify employee hours and enter in to payroll system
– Work in accordance with The Centre of Hope policies, procedures and philosophy of practice.
– Adhere to the operating policies of The Salvation Army concerning employees and finances.
– Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
– Completed a minimum 1-year community college diploma in bookkeeping and office administration in an office environment. A background in human relations considered an asset.
– Minimum of 3 years’ experience in general bookkeeping/accounting and 1 year experience in human relations
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
– Valid Criminal Records Check.
– Experience working for a non-profit organization will be considered an asset.
Working Conditions: Monday to Friday (8:30am – 4:00 pm)
