Office of Faculty Relations

(One Year Contractual Position)

The Office of Faculty Relations is responsible for the negotiation and administration of four academic collective agreements and providing a wide range of academic employment and labour relations advice to the senior administration of the University.

DUTIES

Reporting to the Director and working collaboratively with all staff members in the Office of Faculty Relations, the successful candidate will provide advice and expertise in employment immigration and research support in labour relations as required. The Advisor will manage Memorial’s immigration process for foreign national faculty and staff, visiting scholars and postdoctoral fellows employed or seeking employment with the University. Duties include providing guidance and advice to staff members in the Department of Human Resources and academic departments regarding foreign worker status, immigration categories and available support; liaising with external organizations, including federal and provincial government officials, regarding the immigration process; leading the administration of the University’s immigration policy; supporting academic collective bargaining and grievance resolution meetings; collecting and analyzing salary data, collective agreements, policies and practices from other comparator universities; conducting research to assist with the design and implementation of policies and procedures; representing the university at joint union-University committees; and performing related duties in support of the day to day work in the Office of Faculty Relations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certified Immigration Consultant status. Experience working with collective agreements; graduation from university with major coursework in Labour Relations, Human Resources, Public Administration or a related area; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Required competencies include analytical thinking; planning and organizational abilities; strategic outlook; strong understanding of the related issues; knowledge of the university policies and procedures, employment legislation, and academic collective agreements; and effective communication skills.

SALARY $54,415 – $81,622 per annum (Management and Professional)
