The Advisor, Non-Academic Employee Relations in support of the management community, is responsible for ensuring appropriate interpretation and application of all non-academic collective agreements and employment legislation at the local management level by establishing and maintaining effective relationships with front line management and providing them with expert advice and counsel to ensure compliance and promote positive employee relations. Research, provide summary reports and maintain files and analytical tools on internal grievances, awards and settlements and external decisions and awards for Sr. Advisors and the Director.
Education:
University degree, preferably in Industrial Relations, Human Resources or a similar relevant field.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a complex human resources environment, preferably in a University or the Public Sector or other unionized environment. Some expertise in case preparation for grievances and arbitration hearings an asset.

Proven problem solving skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent analytical and research skills, conflict resolution skills, demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, common sense, excellent organizational skills, knowledge of employment law, effective interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing demands. Work collaboratively and collegially in a team environment.

This position requires the candidate to produce a verification of degree(s), credentials(s), or equivalencies from accredited institutions and/or international equivalents at the time of interview.
Fast paced environment requiring flexibility in hours at work. Sensory demands include a higher than usual level of listening and concentration when working with management and unions. Active listening is essential.
- Compensation:
York implemented a revised CPM Compensation Framework in 2019. The Framework is a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
