Job Summary
The Communications, Marketing and Creative services (CMC) team is responsible for stewarding and enhancing the reputation and awareness of Dalhousie University through brand leadership, communications, marketing, public relations, community and stakeholder relations, creative services, media relations, issues management and crisis communications. Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President (AVP), Communications, Marketing and Creative Services, the Assistant Director, Operations and Planning provides operational and project management support to the AVP on issues that impact the University and CMC operations and planning activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide the AVP with planning and project management expertise to enable and develop integrated annual strategic and unit plans, ensuring measures for plan performance and progress support alignment with Dalhousie strategic priorities.
- Assess operations for efficiencies and effectiveness, identify opportunities and prepare recommendations for strategic business and process improvement.
- Provide the AVP with advice, management and oversight of financial matters related to all unit budgets, revenues and expenditures.
- Provide human resource direction and serve as Human Resources Administrator, acting as principal liaison with Dalhousie Human Resources. Serve as the key advisor to the AVP and CMC directors regarding human resources matters.
- Manage the Executive Assistant to the AVP, and may direct the work of the Creative Services Administrative Assistant.
Note Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in business or a similar field, and five years’ experience in financial management, human resources management and information management (or equivalent combination of education and related experience) are required. Project management, process improvement, and/or change management designations are desirable. Strong planning, project management, process improvement and change management skills are required. Strong interpersonal skills are required, with a high degree of sensitivity, tact and diplomacy and a capacity for independent and sound judgment.
