How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
Under the guidance of their Supervisor, the Assistant, Newcomer Youth Green Economy Project (NYGEP) is responsible for recruitment of program participants and coordination of training and events for the project. This project will support newcomer youth to access experiential learning opportunities, build soft skills, and create pathways to future employment in the environmental sector. The Assistant will conduct outreach to newcomer agencies, educational institutions and employment centres to promote the program, deliver information sessions, and screen interested applicants.
This position also assists with the delivery of a 24 hour training program, coordinates an end of program event, as well as field trips. In addition, this position organizes tasks in support of the project team including booking resources and equipment, preparing reports, and maintaining participant records.
Candidates must be flexible to work evenings and weekends.
Major Responsibilities:
Support the coordination and logistics of training programs in including scheduling, room bookings, refreshments, registration and evaluation.
Assist in the delivery of job search and corporate culture training as needed.
Coordinate and deliver orientation session and field trips.
Coordinate and deliver end of program event for students.
Conduct outreach to stakeholders to recruit program participants.
Deliver information sessions to prospective applicants.
Screen applications for program entry.
Maintain accurate participant records, safeguarding the confidentiality of participant information.
Ensure participant access targets are met.
Track and report on deliverables for internal and funder reports.
Collaborate with team and participants utilizing project management software.
Perform other duties as assigned or as required with departmental, divisional and/or corporate objectives.
What you will need to succeed:
Post-secondary education in Environmental Studies, Education, Outdoor Recreation or other related degree.
Valid G-class driver’s license.
1 – 2 years’ experience delivering training programs and events.
Experience with outreach activities including program promotion and participant recruitment.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) including intercultural communication.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Strong organization, problem solving and time management skills.
Computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to work days and some evenings/weekend hours required.
Ability to travel as needed for project meetings, events and promotion.
