DEPARTMENT OF FINE ARTS
The Department of Fine Arts at Mount Allison University invites applications for a nine-month full-time
sessional position in Studio Art teaching Painting, Drawing, and Studio Seminar. The appointment will be made
at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, and will begin on August 15, 2021, subject to budgetary approval.
Teaching responsibilities will include: FINA 2301 Painting I (Second year), FINA 3301 Intermediate Painting I
(Third year), FINA 2111 Drawing II (Second year), FINA 3701 Third year Seminar in Fine Arts (Contemporary
Art Issues), FINA1951 Exploring a Studio Practice (First year), and advising senior students in FINA 4821/31
Advanced Independent Studio.
The ideal applicant will have: completed a Master of Fine Arts degree; experience teaching painting and
drawing at the undergraduate level; a strong commitment to studio practice; and an active exhibition record. An
informed awareness of contemporary discourse in visual arts, and the ability to incorporate critical theory into
studio and seminar courses at all levels is also required. The ability to teach a wide range of traditional and non-
traditional methods in painting and drawing is essential.

(maximum of 20 images), two reference letters sent directly by the referees, and relevant supporting material
including a teaching portfolio (previous course outlines, examples of student work, etc.), submitted as a single

Mount Allison is a highly respected small undergraduate institution. With 11 full and part-time faculty and
technical staff and approximately 120 students, the Department of Fine Arts offers a BFA and BA with majors
and minors in studio art, with studio courses in drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, open media, and
sculpture. We also offer a BA with majors and minors in Art History, as well as a minor in Museum and
Curatorial Studies. The Department of Fine Arts is located in the Purdy Crawford Centre for the Arts, a purpose-
built facility on the Mount Allison campus. An important support to the Department on campus is the Owens
Art Gallery, with a program of contemporary and historical exhibitions and visiting artists’ presentations.
