The TRU School of Education seeks to fill a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor (bipartite) as the Bachelor of Education Practicum Coordinator for BEd (STEM) and BETT programs. We are looking for education scholars specializing in the following areas of education: science, math, trades and technology in K-12 settings. The position involves the coordination of practicum and teaching within teacher education programs. Teaching experience in K-12 is required. In addition, we seek individuals who are keen to take on leadership roles within the School of Education. We are a faculty embracing of diversity, an essential element of the fabric of Canada. Within School of Education, our student body is approximately 20% Indigenous students and 40% International students in our on-campus programs.

This position has responsibilities in coordinating practicum in in the School of Education’s BEd (STEM) and BEd Trades and Technology (BETT) teacher education programs as well as teaching responsibilities within those programs. This is a bipartite position that entails coordination of practicum, teaching, and service. It is expected that service to the School of Education, TRU, and the broader community is greeted with enthusiasm and an ongoing, sustained commitment to substantial committee work and other leadership opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS

A PhD, EdD or equivalent in education or a relevant field is preferred (inclusive all but dissertation (ABD); a Master’s degree with at least 5 years relevant experience will be considered;

A minimum of one (1) degree in an area of Education is required;

Three (3) years of full time or equivalent hours teaching in K-12 settings is required;

Experience with the pedagogy of practicum, e.g. as a teacher mentor or faculty mentor is required;

Leadership experience is preferred;

Demonstrated expertise in two more of the areas being considered in this posting is preferred;

Evidence of successful post-secondary teaching experience is preferred;

Demonstrated successful experience in post-secondary teaching in a teacher education program is preferred;

Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are required;

Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) required;

Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 62) required;

Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) required.

Proven experience in programs and practices that support diversity, inclusion and intercultural understanding between local, regional and global communities is required.
