About the Role
Global News has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Automated Control Room Director at our Calgary station. Reporting to the Supervisor, Control Room Directors, Global News, the successful candidate will be working primarily with the weekend news team directing in an automated control room setting.
We are seeking a positive and confident team player who thrives in a fast-paced control room environment. The successful candidate will have experience directing and operating within an automated control room and is available to work a variety of scheduled shifts.
The candidate should have a keen interest in news and a desire to help produce the best broadcast in the city – Join the Global News team and be on the leading edge of fast-paced development in the news industry.
Responsibilities:

Direct a variety of newscasts – using MOSART Automation.
Lead crucial technical and editorial decisions under pressure.
Build strong working relationships with producers, technicians and anchors who work on various newscasts.
Take charge of control room aspects when breaking news occurs.
Enhance storytelling and production by building, ordering and utilizing graphic elements.
Operate and maintain working knowledge of production equipment.
Be aware of local and national current events.
Organize promotional and sponsorship requirements for various shows.
Support multi-platform needs including radio, digital and OTT.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
About You
What We Need From You:
An engaged team player with a positive attitude.
Two years experience Directing in an Automated Control Room.
Knowledge of MOSART, non-linear workflows and ENPS will be considered an asset.
Ability to work and show leadership in high-pressure situations, react quickly and think on your feet.
Great communication skills and the ability to work with a variety of personalities.
Strong broadcast technical knowledge – including automation capabilities, rundowns, broadcast audio and composition.
A sense of proper pacing and flow in relation to newscasts.
Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows.
Strong knowledge of social media and online platforms as they relate to broadcast.
Willingness and availability to work a variety of shifts that include early mornings, weekends and holidays.
