Casual Educational Assistants (EAs)
Are you interested in working with children who require the support of an Educational Assistant?
Casual Educational Assistants (EAs) are required on an “as needed” basis to work at various schools and at various grade levels. Casual EAs are required to demonstrate:
understanding of the role and responsibility of an EA
knowledge of the stages of child/youth development
an awareness of, respect, sensitivity, and awareness of similarities/differences for children with special needs
knowledge of health, hygiene and safety including personal/physical care and the safe transfer of students
understanding of behaviour management
knowledge of basic computer applications and technology
awareness of assistive technology
ability to work collaboratively with members of a team
ability to follow instructions of teachers and school administrators
The preferred qualifications of a casual EA include:
post-secondary training in human services or an interest in obtaining the training
high school completion certificate of equivalent
ability to physically perform the requirements of the position
a desire to work with children and youth
respect for confidentiality and privacy protocols
sensitivity and respect for diversity
If you are interested in working as a casual educational assistant, you must successfully complete a Child Abuse Registry Search and a Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector. You will also be required to complete two days of voluntary job shadowing at a school as arranged by Human Resources.
