As a respected leader, you will be responsible for providing regional leadership in support of the ministry’s strategic priorities including service transformation and practice change. This position reports to the Executive Director and operates within Northeast Service Delivery Area. The Director of Operations is responsible for managing the day to day delivery of a continuum of integrated services to children and families. These services include: permanency adoption, guardianship and resources.

The Director of Operations has the responsibility to plan, develop, manage, coordinate and evaluate the delivery of this range of services and is directly accountable for the quality of services and for setting and monitoring standards of practice. The Director is responsible for ensuring the successful integration of service delivery and integrated case management plans for implementing the main mandate and vision of the ministry. You will have an understanding of work planning, project management and best practice, and comprehensive knowledge of the principles and theories in clinical practice (i.e. permanency adoption and resources). Your strong management foundation with responsibility for direct client delivery, preferably in a multi-disciplinary environment, and your ability to direct the work of staff is essential in the success of this role.

Dawson Creek is a historical and beautiful town, with outdoor activities like bird watching and hiking past waterfalls in alpine meadows and mountains ridges. Camping and fishing spots can be found in the provincial parks of Swan Lake and Kiskatinaw. Downhill and cross-country skiing at the nearby Bear Mountain is popular with locals and those in nearby towns.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work OR Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child and Youth Care, OR Masters of Education in Clinical Counselling/Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare. Completion of a practicum in family and child welfare occurs in an agency/organization where a student had the opportunity to practice assessing the needs of children and families to develop and provide intervention services to the children and/or families

NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must request a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report to be considered for this competition.

In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA)

A minimum of four years of recent (within the last six years) progressively responsible experience in adoption, guardianship and resources.

A minimum four years of recent (within the last six years) of continuous experience in a supervisory/management role.

A minimum of two years of recent (within the last four years) experience managing human, budgetary and other resources.

A minimum of two years of recent (within the last four years) experience in program and service delivery planning and evaluation.

Must possess and maintain a valid BC class 5 Driver’s licence with no restrictions or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian province).

Preference may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following:

With one year or more of continuous experience as a Director of Operations in MCFD or in a Delegated Aboriginal Agency.

With experience in child protection and family services.

Who are eligible for full C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Service Act

Who self-identify as First Nations, Metis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
