Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Treasury Services, this position is responsible for the daily monitoring and maintenance of all incoming funds for the University. This includes downloading payments, identifying and accurately allocating and disbursing payments, and posting amounts to appropriate FAST accounts. The Banking Clerk liaises with a contact at the bank to identify any discrepancies between the transactions recorded by the bank and those as per UVic records doing variance investigation of all transactions, and is the point of contact for all banking correspondence. Duties include advising on deposit requirements, direct deposits, international payments and protocol for the University. In addition, the Banking Clerk troubleshoots all issues of unidentified or missing incoming deposits by communicating with banks, departments, vendors and individuals, setting up pre-approval debits, direct deposit requests and responding to all banking related enquiries.

Job Requirements

Skills:
Ability to provide excellent client service by effectively communicating banking and incoming payment practices and procedures to department staff.

Ability to plan, organize and prioritize effectively, while working well under pressure and with interruption

Ability to multitask and manage time sensitive deadlines

Advanced skill using MS Office with an emphasis on Excel skills, Outlook and general business equipment

Ability to maintain large Excel templates and to analyze and produce comprehensive results from large quantities of data

Strong financial skills with an ability to perform analysis, reconciliations and the ability to take initiative and problem solve

Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment

Specialized Knowledge/Education:
Knowledge and understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles

Comprehensive knowledge of University policy and procedure and ability to evaluate accordingly

Knowledge of the FAST and Banner systems

Cash management practices and online banking software tools

Experience:
Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a large, complex organization with applied skills in accounting policies, practices and procedures; preferably in cash operations/banking unit

Experience processing transactions and performing account reconciliations in complex financial and banking systems

Experience with payment card and e-commerce administration in a multi-merchant or similar environment

Bank account reconciliation experience, preferably with high volume accounts

An interest in or experience with training users in cash operations is considered an asset

An equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training may be considered
