BILINGUAL INFORMATION & EDUCATION OFFICER

Keeping Ontario’s Legislative Assembly running smoothly takes many talented people, doing many different jobs—from camera operators and committee clerks, to purchasing officers and researchers. The Office of the Assembly is mandated to provide non-partisan support to the Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs).

Together, we provide administrative and procedural services to all MPPs, as well as operational support for the daily activities of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. Bilingual Information and Education Officer

The Legislative Assembly of Ontario seeks a Bilingual Information and Education Officer, who, as part of our Parliamentary Protocol and Public Relations Branch, in Toronto, ON, will develop and deliver a variety of education and interpretive programs and provide information services for all visitors to Ontario’s Parliament.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You’ll act with integrity to:

  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism in a non-partisan support role
  • Exercise tact and diplomacy in a fast-paced, politically sensitive environment when dealing with MPPs, staff

of the Legislative Assembly, the public, delegations, and other external clients

You’ll support our community as you:

  • Greet and welcome visitors to Ontario’s Parliament
  • Respond to inquiries and internal requests at the information desk, and assist at the Legislative Gift Shop
  • Conduct onsite and virtual tours of the Legislative Building, focusing on the history and heritage of Ontario

and its parliament, while providing a better understanding of the role and function of Parliament

  • Deliver educational programs linked to the curriculum, promoting civic engagement and active citizenship
  • Inform, engage, and empower the public in the work of Parliament, politics, and democracy by assisting in

the development of educational programs and specialized interpretive tours that make history and

democracy accessible to all citizens

How do I qualify?

You demonstrate excellence through your:

  • Completion of a post-secondary education
  • Fluency in oral and written English and French; proficiency in other languages will be beneficial when communicating to our diverse clientele
  • Experience in public speaking and working with a variety of audiences that will give you the confidence to adapt and meet the specific needs of each group visiting Ontario’s Parliament
  • Ability to provide a positive and memorable visitor experience and a high standard of service to all clients; you are an outgoing and effective communicator with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Creativity and strong research skills while you develop tours and enhance current programming
  • Knowledge about the legislative process and an understanding of Ontario’s history and Parliament
  • Flexibility as a team player, and ability to foster good working relationships with your colleagues as a positive contributor
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and possess a valid class “G” driver’s license for conducting outreach programs throughout the province
