        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Job Summary:

To render direct casework , including group work,  to assist clients within Bethany Home  while adhering to the policies and procedures of The Salvation Army.

This is a permanent part-time position at 20 hours per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for managing an assigned client case load which is made up of clients who are currently residing at Bethany Home
  • Follows up on initial client intakes and reviews the Program’s rules and regulations with clients
  • Casework duties, including analysis of data, formulation of treatment plan, implement and support the treatment plan only in as much as it is consistent with the program policies
  • Conduct individual casework sessions with assigned clients, keeping records as to the nature of each session. Make self available to other clients as required.
  • Observe all clients, work with in a therapeutic manner if necessary, document observances of the client along with actions taken by the Caseworker
  • Plan, organize, and offer group programs in consultation with Supervisor
  • Follow up with out-of-building clients as necessary
  • Contact other social service agencies regarding client situation, or for the purpose of inter-agency referrals, or client data
  • Actively pursue personal and professional development through reading relevant literature, and attending relevant workshops, seminar, and conferences.
  • Maintain an active interest in all phases of Program and suggest improvements to same
  • Carry out an increasing role in interpreting Program to the community
  • Communicate and cooperate with all co-workers are respectfully, openly and honestly as security and confidentiality will allow at all times
  • Practice professional code of ethics
  • Adhere to standards consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army
  • Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and service training
  • Engage in formal evaluation sessions with your direct supervisor after probation period and annually thereafter
  • Be able to consent to and meet the necessary security clearance criteria as determined by The Salvation Army
  • Read and follow the Policy & Procedures Manual and the Employee Handbook
  • Liaise and work with other Salvation Army Ministry Units
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • Present to Supervisor, when required, written or oral reports on the conduct recovery plan and progress of each assigned client
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, legible and current client file records
  • Prepare exit summaries for each client
  • Record unusual or out of character behaviours noticed in daily log book at the Front Desk

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education Level Attained:

The individual may have a diploma or degree in Social Work or a related discipline.

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:

  • First Aid/CPR “C”
  • Driver’s Abstract
  • Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector

Minimum Prior Related Experience:

  • One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including frontline casework experience in a social service environment

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

Physical Effort/Dexterity Required:

  • Will be required to lift weighted objects of up to 20 pounds on occasion (bedding, food hampers, donations, etc.)

Concentration Required:

  • The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, frequently interacting with clients, attentive listening, and moderate attention when recording information.

Work Environment:

  • The role is typically in residential settings and will have increased possibility of exposure to angry and abusive people, bodily fluids, waste, odors, drugs, alcohol, toxic chemicals, infectious diseases, sharp objects (i.e. needle sticks, knives and weapons), and other disagreeable conditions normally found when dealing with marginalized clients

Exposure to Hazards:

The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to the following:

  • Physical attacks by others
  • Exposure to infectious diseases
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals
