        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

JOB PURPOSE:

The Caseworker at our Community Outreach Centre provides supervision and support for clients/residents as required by The Salvation Army and funding contract policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:

  • Monitors the environment and clients/residents to ensure safety and security; completes regular client/resident status checks and room searches as required.
  • Develops and implements case management of assigned clients/residents; assists clients/residents in establishing goals, monitoring progress, and prepares discharge plan.
  • Maintains and updates all appropriate documentation (including in-out and incident log books) related to clients/residents and initiates any new documentation; complete all reports required by the funder and The Salvation Army.
  • Provides safe storage and recording of prescribed medications.
  • Coordinates and facilitates resident programming as required.
  • Conducts all required shift change procedures prior to and after shift change.
  • Performs intake and discharge procedures for clients/residents as assigned.
  • Monitors appropriate behaviour; intervenes in crisis situations, provides emotional support and advocacy as required.
  • Distributes funds to residents in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Engages in the development of inter-personal relationships that promote dignity and respect.
  • Performs required scheduled check-ins of residents on passes in community; escorts residents in the community when necessary and monitors behavior.
  • Liaises with Police, funders, court personnel, community agencies, families, and other staff members.
  • Provides orientation to newly hired staff, volunteers, students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:

The successful job applicant will have completed more than two (2) years of Community College.

The successful applicant will hold/have:

  • Diploma or Degree in related social services field
  • **See Precautionary Measures**

NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

 

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:

– One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including frontline casework experience in a social service environment.

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of keyboarding/manual record keeping, and occasionally lifting/packing clients/resident’s property/personal effects and engaging in recreational activities.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The incumbent’s work environment is typically in an office at a facility setting.

The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

  • Isolation
  • Dealing with angry people and verbal abuse
  • Abusive people
  • Work schedule affecting lifestyle
  • Exposure to bodily fluids and bodily waste
  • Exposure to drugs and alcohol

 

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Universal Precautions
  • Immunization for Hepatitis B
  • Vaccination against Tuberculosis
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training

 

Hours:   40 hours per week – may be required to work some evening shifts.
