        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the caseworker will provide a service to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless while interacting in a positive, supportive manner by meeting and developing a case management strategy with the person/family, making referrals to other agencies as appropriate, and supervising practical supportive services while making referrals to other day staff as appropriate.

There are 2 permanent, full-time positions available. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Service Responsibilities
    • Develop and maintain a caseload.
    • Complete an intake and assessment on each resident
    • Provide problem solving/referral counseling to Booth Centre Shelter residents.
    • Develop a network and make referrals to existing services and resources in the community including those of other Salvation Army departments.
    • Provide clients with evening coffee and snack, clean are upon completion.
    • Design and implement, in consultation with supervisor, an interview schedule that will provide an evaluation of ‘quality of life’ improvement of successful program participants.
    • Provide assistance to front desk personnel as necessary, including responding to client issues and crises.
    • Be available to respond to client issues in the dining hall and kitchen during lunch meal.
    • Record activities and incidents occurring during the shift in a factual and concise manner using Log Book and/or Incident Book.
    • Contact emergency service personnel (ambulance or police) when necessary.
    • Maintain confidentiality with regard to clients/staff and Centre’s records.
    • Work closely with and carry out tasks assigned to you by your supervisor.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
  1. Organizational Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of The Salvation Army Booth Centre Policy and Procedures Manual.
  • Meet with Program Director for supervision as scheduled.
  • Model appropriate qualities for this position – i.e., self-motivation, punctuality, and personal hygiene.
  • Commit to and sign the agency and clients’ confidentiality form.
  • Attend staff meetings of The Salvation Army Booth Centre Hamilton, Staff Training workshops and conferences, as authorized by the Centre.
  • Work within mandate and mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Represent The Salvation Army Booth Centre in a professional manner.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be in agreement and comply with the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army Booth Centre, Hamilton.
  • University/College diploma in Social Service and/or a combination of education and related life experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Competent on word processing equipment such as Windows, Microsoft Office etc.
  • Ability to work with socially disadvantaged people who may often harbor resentment and anger.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and implement goals and plans for self and clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and under supervision.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to forty pounds.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Community-based resources.
