UNICEF ensures more of the world’s children are vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organisation. We have done more to influence laws and policies to help protect children than anyone else. We get things done. And we’re not going to stop until the world is a safe place for all our children.
We are currently seeking a Chief Executive Officer (Executive Director) to lead the UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK). You will deliver our ambitious strategy and our vision to do whatever it takes until every child is safe and able to fulfil their potential. It has been a challenging year, but we have also seen great successes. The opportunities to change children’s lives are amazing and the leadership needed to achieve this needs to be equally incredible. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, you will shape and evolve UNICEF UK’s culture, strategy, systems, structure, programmes, innovation and integrated ways of working to deliver outstanding results and impact for children.
The next Chief Executive Officer will require a range of skills and experience. Above all, you must demonstrate a deep commitment, passion and understanding of the work and ethos of UNICEF UK. We wish to encourage applications from experienced senior leaders drawn from a range of backgrounds who can drive and inspire change for children. You will be a values-driven, visionary leader with proven experience of delivering organisational vision and strategy, as well as outstanding operational results in a complex stakeholder context and challenging market environment. You will have exceptional communication and ambassadorial skills. You will be a decisive, inclusive and courageous individual, with credibility, authenticity and integrity.

The salary is commensurate with the seniority of the appointment.
We are normally based on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, East London, but while our office is closed, this role will work from home. We’re expecting to move to a hybrid approach (part home/part office based), once our office opens again.
We particularly welcome applications from black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, LGBTQ+ candidates and candidates with disabilities because we would like to increase the representation of these groups at this level at UNICEF UK. We want to do this because we know greater diversity will lead to even greater results for children.
UNICEF UK promotes equality, diversity and inclusion in our workplace. We make employment decisions by matching business needs with skills and experience of candidates, irrespective of age, disability (including hidden disabilities), gender, gender identity or gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.
We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.
The successful candidate will be required to apply for a criminal records check. A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the role and the circumstances of your offences.
