ABOUT KIDSAFE

KidSafe is seeking a mature and experienced leader who is passionate about the well-being of children to become its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is a full-time role based in Vancouver, BC.

KidSafe is a non-profit British Columbia society that provides break time and after school care, programming and nutrition for children identified as vulnerable by professional third-party referrers. KidSafe has been championing Vancouver’s most resilient kids since 1993 and currently serves approximately 500 children annually.

The Board is looking to partner with a motivated CEO to work together on a refreshed strategic plan for the organization as we consider growth opportunities and enhanced services for the children, families and communities we proudly serve.

ABOUT THE CEO ROLE

The CEO will oversee 12 current full-time staff throughout the year and up to 100 additional sessional staff during winter, spring and summer school breaks at elementary schools throughout Vancouver. Reporting to the board chair, the CEO will manage all aspects of the society and lead the organization through a continued trajectory of fund growth and expansion of our partnerships with donors and external stakeholders while also maintaining KidSafe’s positive reputation in the community as a successful and essential program for children in need.

Specific responsibilities of the CEO will include:

  • Creates a positive and inclusive environment and culture for KidSafe staff and families that focuses on fulfilling KidSafe’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Working collaboratively with the board and KidSafe mangers, leads the development and implementation of organization-wide strategic planning efforts.
  • Actively engages in individual, corporate, foundation and government related fundraising initiatives to drive the revenue growth of the organization.
  • Leads and mentors staff, engaging and empowering them to be successful in fulfilling the organization’s priorities.
  • Ensures KidSafe is appropriately staffed with well-trained, quality, and engaged employees at all times; works closely with the senior management team to develop effective hiring, training, and compensation plans to retain our quality talent.
  • Manages the operations of all organizational departments, with a focus on efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Oversees financial performance and risk profile while ensuring that all regulatory obligations are understood and met.
  • Ensures the timely submission of month-end financial and operational reviews.
  • Represents KidSafe at community events and serves as the primary contact for media.
  • Communicates regularly with board chair and other board members and committees, as needed.
  • Attends and presents at all board meetings and most board committee meetings.
  • Seeks out professional development opportunities such as educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant education and experience leading a team or organization, preferably in a non­profit context.
  • Prior leadership roles in the social service/non-profit sector an asset.
  • Solid understanding of budgeting, human resources, fundraising and risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and manage a business and operations plan.
  • Proven ability to set and accomplish goals/objectives/priorities with minimal direction.
  • Experience and demonstrated strength in leading and motivating a team.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including an ability to work effectively with KidSafe kids, families, donors, volunteers, staff and board members.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and tact in handling highly sensitive and confidential information ethically; adhering to professional standards and protecting confidential information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, and the ability to deliver information clearly and concisely.
