Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Who we are:
Through a funding partnership with the Province of Nova Scotia, Pictou Landing First Nation, Towns of New Glasgow, Pictou, Stellarton, Trenton, and Westville, and the Municipality of the County of Pictou, the PCREN is the regional economic development organization for the area.

Operationalized in 2018, the PCREN works with Federal, Provincial, and local governments, not-for-profit organizations, and business partners on programs and initiatives that align with and fulfill the strategic plan. The PCREN seeks out innovative partnerships and initiatives that will create long-lasting opportunities and supports for multiple Pictou County businesses, while also providing one-on-one navigation for businesses to already available programs.

The PCREN belongs to a network of seven, independent, Regional Enterprise Network organizations in Nova Scotia, each located and focused on a different geographical region. Although, different in area focus and delivery of programming; through this network rural Nova Scotia wide programs are delivered and possible.

Responsibilities

CEO Responsibilities:
The CEO will oversee an engaged staff team and will report to a volunteer board of directors comprised of business and community leaders. Additionally, the PCREN has an oversight committee made up of a representative from Pictou Landing First Nation and each municipal unit. This committee provides high-level oversight to the organization.

As the spokesperson for the PCREN, the CEO is a promoter of Pictou County for people and business attraction. The CEO will continue the Strategic Plan implementation, ensure responsible financial oversight for the organization, and communicate with all levels of government.

Qualifications

CEO Profile & Qualifications:
We are looking for a self-starter candidate with 10 years organizational leadership experience (5+ years at a senior level) who holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, economics, law, or a related field. Experience working with government is an asset.

An ideal CEO candidate for this position is highly engaged, collaborative, communicative, and a relationship cultivator. A connector, innovator, and strategist, who is eager to work across sectors and with various partners for positive economic development, will thrive in this role. This person has an exceptional understanding of business and economic development, including the unique aspects related to rural economies and cultures. They have experience engaging others in new creative methods/models, a skill that will be applied to solve challenges faced by the local business community.

A background in Board governance, preferably in both non-profit and private sector andproven results in securing funding, specifically through grant applications are key skills that the candidate can share to contribute to the ongoing sustainability of the organization. This position and organization requires a leader who exercises good judgement and ethics, and keeps a high-level

of confidentiality.

  • Bondable
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Reside in Pictou County or willing to relocate to the region
  • Travel requirement: 25%
  • Provincial/National/International travel may be required
